Building an email list is hard.
In the battle for attention online, getting an email list not only up and running but sustainable over the long term is a serious challenge.
Let’s face it, the struggle is real.
But, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.
I took to the mountains on a sneaky ski day with my buddy Barrett Brooks, who happens to be the COO of ConvertKit.
So let’s just say he knows a little bit about email marketing.
In his role, Barrett interacts with tons of brands on a daily basis. He sees first hand exactly what works when it comes to email and the secrets behind why some of the most popular sites out there are able to build killer lists.
In this video I got him to spill his best email marketing tips for beginners. This is the stuff that not a lot of people are talking about but can make a massive difference when you’re just starting out and trying to get some traction.
Watch the video to find out Barrett’s best email marketing tips for beginners:
It’s not just about building a list, your focus should be on sustaining it too. That’s what building a brand is all about. Ignoring that is one of the biggest mistakes I see beginners make.
It’s great to have a list of 10,000 people, right?
Well, what if only 100 of them are actually opening your emails and engaging with your content?
Suddenly, that big number doesn’t mean quite as much.
So here’s where to focus your efforts. Create content to give to your readers that is:
- Highly relevant
- Educational
- Impactful
- Entertaining
- Fun
If you focus on doing that, then you’re more than halfway there.
That’s what is going to bring people to your site in the first place.
And then, you keep it going in your emails.
That’s the secret sauce right there.
People are going to be interested in your stuff because you’re interesting.
