Back at the beginning of the year I was talking with my friend Jamie about some rebranding I wanted to do across all my sites.
As part of the conversation, we kept coming back to the idea of shooting a short film for it.
What started as a joke quickly morphed into a script, a crew of three, and a desk that found itself in some pretty unique situations.
So, while much later than I was hoping to have it released, I could not be more excited to finally introduce “The Desk”!

I didn’t do much, I just stood in front of a camera and botched my lines over and over again.
I’ll be doing a full behind the scenes recap of the shoot on Thursday, and will talk more about the team then.

LOVE IT!!! Great job on the new video, Sean! Very inspiring. And it looks like it was a blast to make as well.
And at the very end when you walked away I kept whispering to myself “blow up, blow up, blow up” and them KA-BLAM! A perfect end to an awesome video!
Thanks Kent! Have really appreciated the comments and support over the years. It was a one shot deal, and luckily we got the shot π
This is AWESOME! Loved it when I first saw it at your WDS academy and love it even more now after seeing it again. Crazy how just you three were able to create this epic video. Will definitely share for sure. Can’t wait to see what else is to come from “The Desk”. Great stuff Sean – cheers!
Thanks Mike! I’m stoked, I feel like this is step one for a lot of things that are going to be changing around here – took longer to get to this point than I would have liked, but better late than never right? π
Sean that was brilliant!!! I love it so much!
Thank you Jennifer!!
NICE work, Sean! Love the video. Very well done, and it helps that you have some sweet footage.
Keep inspiring π
Thanks man! Luckily Oregon is a pretty geographically diverse place π
Sean, this is one of the coolest things I’ve seen you come up with since I started following you. Awesome video, super fun and inspiring too. Nice work!
Thank you Robyn! It’ll set the tone for some new things we have one the horizon – but yes, I agree, it was fun to up the ante a bit π
Fantastic!!!
Sean this is awesome. I like that what obviously started out as a joke turned in to a pretty decent piece of marketing.
I’d love to see a social media competition for which Rebel can get a photo of the most extravagant desk setting. I’ve got some pretty cool Peruvian mountains and ruins behind the house, but I’m sure there’d be way more impressive ones out there.
You read my mind, it’s all part of some stuff coming up soon π
Loved the video, it was nice seeing the visual element. You make it sound so simple! Now, I’m off to go check out LocationRebel as I haven’t in awhile.
Thank you! Let me know what I can help with as you dive back in π
Awesome, awesome, awesome. I personally thought a boulder was going to drop from the sky and fall on the desk, but the blowing up thing was just as cool. Can’t wait for the behind the scenes look!
Great job, Sean! I’m sure you did have fun making that- it’s surprising that you found all of that background scenery in Oregon?! I loved it.
Thanks Jane! Yeah the Oregon Tourism Board should be paying me for this haha
Great video Sean!
Sean – you’re the man! You couldn’t have paint the picture of location independence any better. Great work my friend.
Thanks dude, you’re doing a pretty good job of painting that picture yourself as well π
Haha–awesome ending man!
Love the video Sean – I loved it at WDS and it’s just as fab now – really pleased to share it, and excited to see it take you and LR to the next level #proudtobeoneoftheonethousand π
Excellent work! I’m excited!
What a brilliant piece of film making. Blowing my 9 to 5 desk away so I too can do my own thing is exactly what I aim to do too.It was just great to see you do it physically so I can do it in my minds eye when I sit down yet again tomorrow in a place I will leave – thanks to you.
Really awesome job, Sean! I love the video and I love the message – well done!!!
Just came across your site. That was one epic video. Nice work. Inspire on!
Happy to have you here! It’s been awesome to finally be able to show everyone π
Been watching you the last few years, and man, you rock! Awesome video.
Thanks man, much appreciated!
The humor was fantastic. I watched it twice since I was so focused on the different scenes the first time :). The message is very inspiring and had a great segment on what Location Rebel is/provides without being vague/buzzword-y. I definitely feel the need to hop back on Location Rebel after watching it.
I’m eagerly waiting to see the coming videos now too!
Yes! Well played. I think you hit on exactly what so many people are seeking.
I feel like you’ve nailed the practical, how-to aspect of this on the blog in recent months. The change in content is both noticeable and right on point. Keep it up.
Lift-off time!
Dude, really means a lot to hear you say that. We’ve been trying to be a lot more deliberate about the content and how it’s presented. A lot to update over the next few months, but feeling good about the direction things are going!
Loved the video and didn’t hesitate to share. Very creative….good advertisement for the STATE of OREGON too.
Haha!
I was thinking “How did he get the desk that far out into the snow or desert?”
Definitely remarkable, great work Sean.
Thanks
Tom
Awesome video! You and Location Rebel have been one of the biggest influences in my life when I joined almost a year ago. It’s been amazing looking back at everything I’ve been able to accomplish for myself and I have you to thank for helping me make that first step.
The video was a great way to start the day and had me laughing (and grinning) by the end. Amazing!
Looking forward to the next year!
Hilarious ending and great message! If I could, I would join LR all over again because of that. π
Hola Sean,
Great video. Simple and to the point.
One thought. You need to ‘salsa’ a little more on your downswing π
Keep up the good work.
Best,
James
So awesome Sean and I love that you said discipline because in my mind discipline = more freedom. Loved the ‘happy ending’
Thanks for the love Natalie! And I totally agree, discipline and consistency in effort are really what it all comes down to for me.
Great video Sean. Makes me want to join up all over again.
Let me know if there’s anything I can help!
Hi Sean,
Just wanted to say that was a fantastic video! Nice work.
Thanks Brandon!
What a great video. Your subject of working outside hooked me in to watch, and your ideas hit home. Making dreams a reality. Looking forward to hearing more!
Awesome video, Sean! Can’t wait to see more from The Desk. Really makes me want to join Location Rebel even more now… π
Let me know if I can answer any questions about it, would love to have you in the community! π
Well done man! Loved to see that desk get torn to shreds at the end. Must have been a few M-80’s stuffed in those drawers:) Great job!
Love the rebrand!!! And well done with the video! Love all the outdoor shots around Oregon. That’s definitely my ideal office π
Great job, Sean! You must have had a great time making it too.
Best of everything. You always give out valuable information.
Such an epic video. Excited for the behind the scenes. Let me know when the next video is in the works; I wanna help!
That’s fantastic! If I didn’t already want to sign up for LR, this would definitely make me want to sign up. I loved the exploding desk! I wish I could have seen that part in person π
Great video! The hard work that was put into it was definitely worth it!
Nice. The green Pacific Northwest sure has some wonderful locations.
Well done video! I’ll be looking out for the next one! Cheers. (=
Awesome idea for a video. Congrats!
Can’t believe I’m just seeing this. Pure brilliance! And who knew Sean had acting skills, what!
Nice nice nice!! Really liked the video! Thanks for motivating people all over again:))
Sean — love this! Definitely piqued my interest about learning more about Location Rebel!
Damn – that looked like a great desk! π
I’m really excited for the revamp of your site, especially for the fact that it’ll bring more attention to this video, like you said. It’s obvious it was a huge undertaking, and it is SO appreciated, because it gives me chills to watch. Thank you for everything you do for the location independent community.
Great video!
I think I heard you say or write that you weren’t getting the kind of response you wanted to get from this video.
Well, no matter.
I’ve always been ahead of my time, and you are too. The world will catch up with you. π
Now I’m going to watch it again.
Truly creative and inspiring!
Very interesting and creative way to put everything in a nutshell.
Well, I’m excited to start. Let’s do this! The world is my stage and now I’m a team player with yall.
