Hey everyone, thanks for checking out the new forum!
As this is very much a work in progress, I wanted to start a thread where you guys can all give ideas and input so that we can get this thing up to speed as quickly as possible. We still have a lot of stuff in the works, but would love to hear about the things that YOU want to see in the meantime.
So, what do you want to see at Location Rebel??Becoming Location Independent is easier than you think...
Just wanted to let everyone know that I've added the ability to put a single line signature (including urls) by going to Account > Personal Information.Blog: Wage Slave Rebel
I definitely think we should bring in as many authoritative voices as possible. Perhaps we can empower a small group of awesome bloggers to each start a main discussion in their niche area of expertise: teaching English, cheap travel, building muses, passion businesses, writing ebooks, whatever. I think this could easily pickup where the 4HWW boards and other forums fail. Like the direction this is going though, great work guys…Thrilling Heroics || Twitter || LinkedIn
Working on getting a WYSIWYG editor up. For now, all links are automatically made clickable and if you paste a link to youtube or an image it's automatically loaded. Trying to get something better going.Blog: Wage Slave Rebel
Is there some reason you guys didn't use one of the typical forum platforms like vBulletin? I love the idea but I'm not sure about the interface. I am sure I will get used to it but at the moment it doesn't seem as intuitive as the usual forums that are out there.Blog :: Twitter
JD can answer this better than I can, but we wanted something that is a little bit cleaner looking, and not as typical as other forum sites. I was also on the fence about the platform, but I am actually growing to really like it.
Over the coming day and weeks we will be continually updating with new plugins and added features as well. So it should still have much/all of the same functionality as some of those other sites, just with a different look and feel.
Really appreciate the feedback though. Aside from the general layout, is there anything you would like to see that isn't here yet?Becoming Location Independent is easier than you think...
@Travoholic - I preferred Vanilla over phpbb and vbulletin because it's very minimalist. I had already gotten used to the "all discussion" format (as opposed to the forum being divided into separate boards) because of my frequent use of bbpress. It won't always seem as unintuitive as it does. In fact, once you get used to it it actually has a better flow than the typical forum layout. For me at least.Blog: Wage Slave Rebel
I'm always slow to adapt but I'm sure I will grow to love it once I start using it a bit more.
One thing that is missing for me is the ability to format the posts in the comment window. It's not something I use a lot but the ability to bold writing, make bulleted lists, add hyperlinks etc. is handy.Blog :: Twitter
It can be done but I know it's really inconvenient. I'm trying to install a visual editor, but I'm having some difficulty. I'll get it working eventually though.Blog: Wage Slave Rebel
The Textile plugin might be useful for those who don't know HTML while also being easier to deal with than a GUI editor, which area almost always terrible.
For what it's worth, I commend your choice of Vanilla. It's miles more usable than all the other exactly-alike forums out there.Web Consulting :: Classic Cocktails
bq. The Textile plugin might be useful for those who don't know HTML while also being easier to deal with than a GUI editor, which area almost always terrible.
Textile is installed. I think it still might be inconvenient for most people. I can't get the WYSIWYG editors to work, though. I'm guessing the plugin is modifying the main comments.php and not the one included with the theme we're using.Blog: Wage Slave Rebel
Just one more thing from me... I find having to go to new pages frustrating. Is it possible to have more than 10 posts per page? I would love to see all of posts on one page but I'm not sure if this is practical. Just a thought! Otherwise I'm getting used to it. :-)Blog :: Twitter
I have been thinking the same thing actually. I am getting used to it as well. But it would be nice if there could be atleast 25 or so topics on the first page. Thanks for the thoughts!Becoming Location Independent is easier than you think...
