I thought it might be a good idea to create a list of what other lifestyle designers do. So that if we need some work done such as web design, programming, graphic design, writing, etc. We can support another person that is pursuing the location independent lifestyle.
I have a business doing web design/development and social media marketing, but getting more into actual business development and consulting on how to go online (and increasingly HOW to turn your business mobile). Right hereL http://thrillingheroicsconsulting.com
This year my big push though will be to get into product creation (ebooks/courses) and start selling my photography.Thrilling Heroics || Twitter || LinkedIn
I'm an affiliate marketer from Canada and I too have a pretty strong interest in photography. The travel and non herd lifestyle really got me back in 2007. Nice to find more like minded people. i recently started entreprenURLs.com which is an aggregate for people that want to make it on their own.
I am a writer. I spend too much time doing technical writing (legal, medical), but am trying to branch out into other areas where I can write in normal English.
I do a variety of things from SEO and business development to freelance writing. I'm your typical jack of all trades, master of none type of person, which I feel is true for a lot of people in our niche. So I may be able to provide input on a lot of topics, but I'm probably not the best person to turn to when it comes to super high quality web work haha.Becoming Location Independent is easier than you think...
I've worked in typesetting, freelance web design and wore many hats handling web design/development/seo/marketing for a travel corp before jumping out and falling back to freelancing - this time a lot more successfully! I'm looking to expand into some kind of product/webapp creation and travel a lot more this year which I guess is why the Location180/WageSlaveRebel lovechild tugs at me. From May I'm doing some slow travelling while trying to maintain the freelance work. Perhaps weirdly I love sitting up all night headphones screaming hacking together websites; if it's a site for a good cause then I'm golden. Pleased to meet you all...- Shaun
Most of my life, I've been a software developer specializing in integrating in custom developed data products into some fairly large organizations. The majority of my mobile income is currently supporting some of those existing clients. I leave open the possibility of taking on technology integration/project management roles - but I'm moving away from doing coding myself.
My partner Chris, has an extensive background in mobile technology (previously being the 'Chief Spy' for Palm). He now picks up consulting work revolving around keeping a pulse on that industry - from research to investment advising.
Some of our other side business pursuits include:
- Helping people de-clutter their lives by coaching them through purging excess stuff (physical and mental), and getting the physical stuff disposed of (sold/donated)
- Product launch strategy - helping companies make unique splashes with their product launch. Last year, we helped a small iPhone app crash Macworld with a double decker party bus - complete with orchestrating sponsors, media and social media.
- Strategy in general - we help companies and people develop a strategy around marketing themselves or taking on new directions. This can come in the form of 'coaching' to doing intense market research. We've done everything from investment advising to patent research.
In general, my life/travel partner and I are highly versatile, experiences, agile and enjoy quickly ramping up to new challenges. Heck, in December we took a temp gig packing boxes at Amazon.com's fulfillment center - mostly for the fun of a new experience. And we've also taken on content production gigs - audio, written and video.
We love a life of variety :)Cherie / Technomadia.com
I run a boutique web development and design company (BreakTheGrid.com) that specializes in PHP , Ruby on Rails web application dev and UX design. My previous work used to be in PR, Marketing, and Brand & Business Development, so I have been considering getting into consulting as well. Ian | Twitter | 29things
