    Hey guys,

I wanted to introduce myself. Somebody on one of the blogs I read wrote a review about this site and peaked my interested. I'm a recent graduate of the Pepperdine MBA program and have a bachelors degree in economics from UC-Berkeley. I'm also a personal development blogger. You can see my blog at http://www.theskooloflife.com. I've been trying to find full time employment since I graduated back in April and ironically lifestyle design might be the byproduct of not finding a job. On a personal level, I've become an avid surfer and fallen love with the ocean. Look forward connecting with you guys.

@skooloflife Glad to have you here. Have you read Tim Ferriss' 4 Hour Work Week? When you said you were an avid surfer it reminded me of a case study I *think* was in the book (but I'm not totally sure) about a guy who moved to Brazil and opened a surfing business. I might have seen this elsewhere, though.

Lifestyle design is definitely a good choice. If I were you I'd take that love of the ocean and run with it for some kind of business idea. Your education definitely doesn't hurt you either.

Nice blog, too!Blog: Wage Slave Rebel

    Hey everybody -

First off, congrats to Sean and JD for getting locationrebel.com off the ground. This is going to be a great resource and a great community and I am glad to be a part of it.

As far as who I am, here's the short version - Grew up in California (Santa Barbara) and moved to Texas (Austin) for grad school in 2004. After school, I built a successful company from the ground up but, after 3 years of early mornings, late nights, and ultimately unfulfilling work, I was burned out and knew I needed to make a change. I've always promised myself I would never settle for anything less than an exciting and passionate life...but I was doing just that. I've since taken a leap of faith away from the world of J.O.B.s and am striving to find my way.

I'm learning as I go and, though old habits die hard, I'm moving forward and making some waves - well, more like ripples but it's a start :). I look forward to bouncing ideas off each other and getting to know all of you better...

    Hey all,

This is Ken Kurosawa at Wasabi Burger.

What do you do Ken? What kind of work? Have you thought about moonlighting or starting as a part-time freelancer?

When I quit my job, I was just incredibly pissed off and depressed. I'm not recommending that be your reason to quit because in hindsight it was irrational and could have really screwed me over, but sometimes quitting for no good reason does a lot for pushing you in the right direction. I started freelancing right after that out of necessity and it forced me to live the life I want.

Good luck on escaping the 9-5!Blog: Wage Slave Rebel

I really believe that necessity breeds action. While I have been taking steps towards leaving for months, I think it is true to a point that until I HAVE to start taking action, there will still be something holding me back from really embracing the idea of working for myself.Becoming Location Independent is easier than you think...

    Hello Everyone,

I'd like to say well done for opening a site like this! It's comforting to know there are people out there who share my aspirations for location independence and liberation from economic slavery. I read many of your blogs and they're brilliant.

    About me:
I'm a 25 y/o American finance professional. I do M&A, restructuring and leveraged lending - and I hate it. Finance is my intellectual passion, but the industry is a miserable racket and I'm plotting escape. My goal is to construct a location independent business oriented around my interest in investing (consulting, research, etc.).

I hope to learn a great deal from everyone here, and hopefully make some useful contributions of my own.

    Best of luck!

I agree. I had been consulting on the side for a year or so before striking out on my own and while I talked about taking it full time, I wasn't taking positive steps in that direction. My decision was made for me when I was laid off; I accepted the challenge and threw myself into my own business instead of looking for new employment and haven't looked back since.Web Consulting :: Classic Cocktails

    Hey Sean and JD!
Great site you created here. So glad to see a digital nomad community forming. It's an exciting life, but I think the more we can share and relate the better. It isn't always easy as I have found over the last four months since launching a mobile life.

For those of you who don't know me...what's up! I'm Amber from Epicself.com and Twobackpacks.com. My main blog epicself is a health/wellness blog, while twobackpacks is my latest attempt to document my traveling gypsy lifestyle and help others do the same. I am a professional dancer and pilates instructor on top of my writing. All three jobs have allowed me the ability to move. I use my websites and pilates teaching to fund my dance career and travel. Four months ago I sold everything and left the states for Australia. I'm currently making my way around this massive country with plan to head through Asia and eventually land in Europe to dance.

I am so stoked this community exists and hope we share lots of tid bits with eachother. Cheers for now guys!

    Hello all,

Jonny from thelifething.com. I am a UK Designer, writer and entrepreneur currently living in Bangkok. I write about Life Design and Productivity with a healthy does of entertainment and humour. I have a business back in the UK, sell product designs to companies and eat far too much icecream than is healthy for one individual.

Wanted to congratulate the guys for setting up a great forum. I am reading through everyones profiles now and will try and get in touch with everyone.

    Hey everybody,

Congrats, Sean and J.D. for starting these forums. I wish you well and look forward to the discussions that shape up here.

I'm Corbett Barr, and I blog about Lifestyle Design and success outside the cubicle over at Free Pursuits. My lifestyle design goals involve working for myself as an entrepreneur, writer and independent consultant. I recently returned from a six-month road trip through Mexico, where I made some important self discoveries about what's important to me in life and work. I'm so pleased to now be a part of this growing and supportive community of lifestyle designers.

    Hi there,

I am location independent and have been for almost a year now. My husband and I sold our big house in a vineyard for travel and living out of our suitcases. I am sitting overlooking the ocean in Hawaii at the moment--so I cannot complain about our decision.

I worked in a bank before deciding to travel--and I am so happy to have quit my job! Now I am writing my dissertation for my PhD and loving life!

I know it is hard for people living in "normal life" to escape the daily grind... but challenging myself to do just that has been the best decision I have ever made!

You know when you first arrive somewhere new and you sit in your hotel room, on your hostel bed, or your couch surfers couch and you just ponder the possibilities that this place will offer and what you may be able to give in return? This is me here right now. My mind boggles at the enormity that this forum offers and allows me to give.

    J.D. & Sean, thank you.
Thank you for the time you've taken, your efforts, your energy and enthusiasm in bringing this together. I look forward to participating, learning, sharing, caring and laughing within this community. To introduce myself, my name is Caron Margarete.

I used to be like a puppy that turns it's head and sees something following, that then tries to bite it and warn it away, in turn I would begin spinning around constantly nipping at what was my own tail. Travel was always a constant tail following me, here I was nipping at it and hating my inability to stop moving (around Australia). I kept thinking to myself that I was just trying to find my calling but not recognising the one thing following me was something that was mine to own and appreciate, not fear and push away.

I have been out of Australia for about 2 & a bit years now and currently live in Harbin, northern China. I work as a journalist for an English magazine (www.haerbinger.com) and also as an ESL teacher. I came across the location independent survey a few months ago and the entire view on my life changed; for the first time ever I felt I had a direction to work towards. Corny movie moment: the sky opens, the clouds part, sun shines down and the Goddess says, "Girl, you gotta get it going on!"

I began my blog From Whoa to Go (www.fromwhoatogo.wordpress.com) to motivate me and to also enable me to document what I was learning to become location independent (which I do not consider myself to be since I still rely on the ESL teaching income) and ever since my mind is continually being expanded by the likes of you... all of you. Just the fact that we have this environment of support is like you've opened the door to family members you've never met and said, "come 'ere and give Grandma a big ol' smooch... (slobber optional)!" ;)Caron FromWhoatoGo

Marigold, It is very inspiring to hear another story about someone that broke out of their normal routine to do something that they are really passionate about!

Caron, JD and I have been thinking the same thing in regards to the potential this forum can bring. Everyday this community is growing larger, the larger it becomes the better resource it will be! Thanks for the introduction!Becoming Location Independent is easier than you think...

    What a great community!

I'm MK and I've been lurking around the life design/location independent worlds for a bit. Time to stop lurking and actually get moving.

I'm based in Massachusetts. I lived in Nova Scotia while going to university and moved back home to MA shortly after graduation. Currently I am a writer working for a government agency and looking to break out and start freelancing. I am also exploring/entering the world of affiliate/online marketing (also involved with Project Mojave - anyone here also members?).

No website yet - working on it - but I am on twitter at mkfeeney.

Looking forward to learning from you and sharing experiences!

    Hi everyone!

I'm Brian. I'm currently just starting out being location independent - it's only been about two weeks. I'm in Tucson now testing out my ability to be away from home for long stretches, but then I return to Denver (my home) and leave for a 5 week trip for Europe on 14 October. I'll be in Budapest & London - let me know if you're around and want to meet up!

I run my blog at www.lifestyle-y.com and my business is www.shortcuttochina.com.

You guys will probably be interested in a new site I just started up - www.liptalentexchange.com. This is a mailing list similar to HARO, but for people who are location independent. It's free, check it out and sign up!

    Hi!

I'm Elke, 22 and currently studying in Belgium. I'm still new to the idea of life design but it really feels like coming home!

After high school I spent a year abroad in Mexico, living with a host family. Last year I lived in a little town near Munich for one semester with an exchange program from my school. I spent the summer in France to update my French while working as a receptionist in a camping (awesome studentjob) and this year I moved to Brussels. OK, Brussels is not really "abroad" but you know; it's Belgium and home in my village is reaaaallly different from this multicultural city. I'm hoping to spend the summer in Spain; as a receptionist again; because my Spanish needs some freshing up!

Since I'm still new to the possibilities of life design, I don't have a blog yet (well not about that anyway, my regular Dutch blog is over at http://elke.tumblr.com) but I think it might be interesting, at the very least for me, to write down how I see life design, how I could fit it into my life and my journey towards a location independent life.

I am still a student now, and I seriously dont look forward to working in a cubicle, it would be great to find a way before graduating to avoid this, like Chris Guillebeau has done. Only, I have no idea yet how? I feel like I have no real experience in anything that would enable me to make money by... Time for some brainstorming in my head I guess :-)

I'm also on Twitter by the way, currently known there as Daylah
